Lake County Partners with Magellan on Broadband Study
Magellan is partnering with Lake County, Florida, to discover areas within the community where unserved and underserved households lack access to high-speed, affordable and reliable broadband internet services. The project also will identify opportunities and projects that the county can consider to enhance coverage in urban and industrial centers that require increased speed and access.
Magellan’s comprehensive market analysis will identify the current providers and services available across the county, including within the county’s municipal boundaries. The goal of the project is to ensure the county has a good understanding of each location (residential, business, or community anchor facility) that lacks sufficient access and develop project areas county staff can use to drive service provider expansion as they leverage available state and federal funding.
To facilitate the assessment, Lake County will distribute an online survey to research and document the current environment and the needs of the county’s residents and businesses.
“We appreciate the importance of having ubiquitous high-speed broadband infrastructure in place to serve everyone and sustain the area’s growth,” says Lake County. “Partnering with Magellan on this important infrastructure project is a success for the county’s current and future residents.”
“This broadband study that Lake County is commissioning is the first step in closing the digital divide for its residents and includes taking inventory of each and every house that lacks connectivity today,” says Magellan Chief Executive Officer John Honker. “We applaud their vision and look forward to the opportunity to assist Lake County as they work to expand next-generation broadband across the community.”
The assessment is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022.
